2007/01/17 Aftenbladet: Energy rock from Skambankt

On January 29th, Skambankt will give you a new dose of rock, in the form of the energy potion "Eliksir".

The reaction to Skambankt's debut album "Skambankt" was very positive, and soon you will get a refill of the band with exclamation marks after each song title.

- We got to say a lot on the last record, and now we went a bit further in our ideas, frontman and singer Terje Vinterstø, aka Ted Winters, says.

With song titles like "Revolusjonens Aggregat!" and "Kapitalens Spel!", it's probably not so suprising that the band has been compared to bands like Sex Pistols, Ramones and Stooges.

- We have opinions like everybody else, bass player Tollak Friestad, aka Don Fist, says.

Lyrics not so important

Yet they make clear that the lyrics don't have a too big meaning for the band.

- It is so typical that because we are singing in Norwegian, we have to talk a lot about what we write. And we have become good in writing, Winters concludes.

We leave the matter there.

Energy potion

"Eliksir" is the name of the new Skambankt record, and for all Harry Potter fans, an elixir is a magic potion.

- The record is a kind of rock energy drink, Winters explains.

Kaizers relations

Skambankt had to endure a few comparisons with Kaizers Orchestra. Maybe not so surprising, as frontman Ted Winters also plays the guitar in exactly that band.

- It's kind of a two edged sword. It is annoying if journalists hear Kaizers in everything we do. But definitely it helped us getting started with regard to PR, the Kaizers guitar player says.

Tour

Some teasers from "Eliksir" are already online on the band's website, and the first single "Tyster" has lately become a radio hit. Actually Skambankt's first radio hit.

In February, there will be a tour, starting with a concert in Stavanger.

- We considered our home town, Klepp, but there aren't so many concert places there, Don Fist smiles.

Also Denmark

Skambankt made an impression on the Danish audience, and after a successful concert at Roskilde Festival in 2005 and many concerts in that country, they include Denmark in their tour list.

- First it's two week in Norway before we go to Denmark and play som concerts there, Winters explains.

Now Skambankt are busy practicing. With the band members living in different parts of the country, it's often a long time between each time they meet.

- Even we need to practice, Winters concludes.
